Past Grantees

The Luhtanen Howes Charitable Foundation is very proud to have supported the following organizations that make an impact in the lives of children.

Child’s Hope

Child’s Hope is the child abuse prevention council of out-Wayne County that collaborates with other community partners to raise awareness about child abuse and neglect, inform community stakeholders of proper ways to report suspected cases, and also provide workshops instructing on preventative measures. The foundation supported training for the My Body Is Mine abuse prevention program for preschoolers in 2011 and 2013 and the Blankets 4 Kids support program for victims of abuse in 2013.

Methodist Children’s Home Society

The Methodist Children’s Home Society (MCHS) is an accredited trauma treatment facility in Redford that works intensively with the youth in their care to provide the necessary tools for their future success.  MCHS responds to the needs of abused and neglected children by providing an array of housing, educational, clinical, and therapeutic services. In 2013 and 2014, the foundation supported the creation of an on campus classroom to support literacy and education for their residential care youth.

Child Safe Michigan

Child Safe Michigan is a foster care, adoption, and mentoring agency working with neglected, abused, and at-risk children in Madison Heights.  In 2013, the foundation supported the Trauma in Children: Caregiver Education program to provide free training to caregivers of foster youth on proven strategies to engage and support victims of trauma.

Lighthouse Family Charity

The Lighthouse Family Charity aims to stop child abuse by raising awareness through community events, providing promotional materials and resources, and employing prevention programs.  In 2012, the foundation supported the organization’s expansion to Plymouth, including the Run for Ribbons 5K, the Pinwheels for Prevention Garden Campaign, outreach to local schools, and the Blue Dress Gala.

The Guidance Center

The Guidance Center provides a broad range of highly effective services that help children, adults, and families unlock potential and build better lives.  In 2011, the foundation provided support for the agency to achieve its mission to enhance the development and well-being of children, adults, and families in need.

The Children’s Center

The Children’s Center offers meaningful solutions that address mental, physical, and behavioral health; abuse and neglect; and poverty challenges currently faced by over 100,000 children in the Greater Detroit area.  In 2011, the foundation provided support for the organization’s mission to offer an integrated approach to community mental health that treats the whole child and the whole family.
